Who is responsible for safeguarding at Sachindex?
Christina Jung, our Ansvarig för faktagranskning, is the designated Standards Lead for all content involving minors. She reviews every article, image or video that identifies or describes a child before it can go live. No material featuring a minor is published without her explicit sign-off. This additional layer of review sits above the normal editorial and fact‑checking process described in our Editorial Policy. It ensures that every decision about naming, quoting or photographing a young person is scrutinised for both legal compliance and ethical soundness.
What is our approach to covering children?
We apply a strict presumption of non‑identification when covering minors, unless there is a clear public‑interest justification and verifiable parental or guardian consent has been obtained. Children are never interviewed without a responsible adult present and informed about the purpose of the interview. We avoid sensational language, unnecessary repeated references to childhood trauma, and any detail that could lead to stigmatisation or bullying. Our Fact‑Checking Policy requires all sources relating to minors to be independently verified.
Where a story involves a child who is a victim, witness or subject of a court proceeding, we follow Swedish press ethical guidelines and, where applicable, the Swedish Parental Code and GDPR provisions on children’s data. Anonymisation is the default; if identification is considered essential, the decision is documented and signed off by both Christina Jung and Chefredaktör Daniel Winter.
How does our editorial process protect minors?
Every piece that mentions, quotes or depicts a minor undergoes an additional review step before publication, conducted by Christina Jung. The review checks consent, necessity of identification, potential harm and compliance with this policy. The author and the Redaktionschef, Sandra Brandt, also assess the piece during the normal editing stage. Our Editorial Policy sets out the full workflow; the extra safeguarding review is embedded between the headline review and final sign‑off.
We also ensure that any user‑generated content or reader tips about minors are not published without prior vetting. Readers who wish to share information about a child are encouraged to use our dedicated tips address (Tip Us), and we will only pursue the story if it meets our public‑interest criteria and the minor’s welfare is protected.
